Terrra Oceana is a colorway made from handpainted roving "Peridot" and locks of super soft kid mohair dyed in a variety of teal blue hues. 100 yard skeins, approx 2.2 oz each. Spun as a heavy worsted thick and thin. Suggested needle size 7-9.
I love the gem peridot. The only piece of jewelry I have from my maternal grandmother is her birthstone peridot ring, given to her as a graduation gift. Peridot is one of the few gemstones which can only occur in one color, an olive green. The exact tint depends on how much iron the gem contains. I sort of think this fits with my grandmother, who was kind of a lady with a lot of iron which tinted her personality and the world around her.
This is a semi solid colorway, with various shade of peridot handpainted onto a fine Falkland wool fiber for a gorgeous next to the skin soft matte yarn.
Each skein of yarn is a labor of love. Rroving is hand painted with low acid dyes, steamed, and cooled for 24 hours to ensure colorfast yarn and less environmental impact as no dye is being washed down the drain. The roving is drafted and spun on my dreamy Schacht Matchless wheel, wound onto the niddy noddy and fashioned into a skein. Next, I soak the skein of yarn in a spring water rinse. At this point the wet skein is blocked and finally stored, awaiting a new home.
